Handoff

In plain English

A handoff passes a piece of work to the next person, bot, or session, with the notes needed to continue it.

Example

A bot finishes a research summary and writes a short note: sources checked, open questions, and the file name. The next session reads the note instead of starting over.

Why it matters

Work often outlives one session. A handoff is the package that lets someone else pick it up: what is done, what is left, where the files are, and what not to change.

In AI agent tools, a handoff can also mean one agent passing a conversation or task to another agent that is better suited to it. Either way, a good handoff is written down, not left in someone’s head.
