Acceptance criteria

Also called acceptance criterion.

Acceptance criteria are the specific conditions a result must meet before you treat the task as done.

Example

“The glossary search for PR lists Pull request first, and a phone at 320 pixels does not scroll sideways.” Those two checks are acceptance criteria.

Why it matters

They describe this task, not a team-wide slogan. A definition of done can be a broader standard. Acceptance criteria say what this page, bot, or fix has to satisfy.

Common confusion

Acceptance criteria are checks for this piece of work. They are not a prompt, and they are not a test runner by themselves.
