Instructions & context

Context

Also called AI context.

Context is the information available to an AI model for a particular response, including instructions, conversation, and supplied material.

Example

You attach a refund policy and ask a bot whether a customer qualifies. The policy is part of the context for that answer.

Why it matters

If a fact is not in the context, the model is guessing or using training memory, not reading your private note. Putting the source in the context is how you give the model something to use.

Common confusion

Context is not the same as long-term memory. Memory may be saved for later. Context is what this response can use.
