Grok Bot can now build slide decks, and its computer got a bigger screen

Grok Bot shipped two updates this week: version 0.68.0 on October 5 and version 0.68.1 on October 7. Most of it is polish, but a few changes are easy to spot even if you only started using Grok Bot last week. Everything below comes from the official Grok Bot changelog.

The changes you'll notice first

What changedWhat it means for youVersion
Slide decksA Bot can build a deck with you. It shows sample slides to choose from, then delivers a PowerPoint file or Google Slides.0.68.1
Bot-colored chatsYour messages in a one-on-one Bot chat take that Bot's color. To turn it off, set Accent to Black in Settings → General.0.68.1
Formatted emailsEmails a Bot sends from a draft card can show headings, bold text and lists.0.68.1
Bigger computer screenThe Bot's computer screen is now 1920 × 1200, up from 1280 × 800, so there's more room when you watch it work or take over.0.68.1
Five new languagesMarathi, Tamil, Telugu, Swahili and Hausa join the Language options in Settings.0.68.0

The changelog says Bot-colored chats need Grok Bot 0.64.0 or later.

Clearer approval cards

When a Bot needs your OK, the approval card now asks whether to allow that Bot by name and quotes its instruction, so you can see who is asking and why before you say yes. Settings now calls the rules you save from those cards Custom Rules (0.68.0). If approvals are new to you, our glossary entry on the approval prompt covers the basics.

Fewer stuck moments

Version 0.68.1 also fixes several ways a Bot could get stuck:

  • Pressing Stop or sending a new message ends a Bot that's stuck on an unresponsive step within about 30 seconds.
  • The Bot's browser recovers from a crashed tab and gives up on a stuck page after 25 seconds.
  • When X or Vercel needs you to sign in again, the Bot shows a reconnect card instead of retrying or giving up.
  • Gmail actions fail less often, and Bots wait out Google's rate limits.

The same release says Bots work faster on their computer: actions settle sooner, screenshots come back quicker, and new windows skip a five-second wait.

For teams

If you use a Team Bot in Slack, it can now mention a Slack user group so its members get notified, while @here and @channel still don't ping anyone. In Slack threads it follows, it stays quiet on untagged replies that don't need it, such as emoji-only replies (0.68.1). Team Bots also no longer appear in the primary Bot picker (0.68.0).

Smaller things worth knowing

  • Settings → Computer now shows Remove for your other computers (0.68.0).
  • Searching the command palette also finds plugins (0.68.0).
  • Right-click a routine in the details pane for Pause, Resume, Test, Edit and Delete (0.68.0).
  • Typing / in the message box no longer opens a menu of skills and actions (0.68.1).
  • A few days earlier, on October 2, the in-app Marketplace was renamed Connect Apps, with category chips under the search and Recommended for you first (0.67.0).

A new template: Video Editor

The Grok Bot Marketplace on the web has a new template called Video Editor, by Ethan Ng. Its listing says it edits short vertical talking-head videos from your raw footage: it picks the best takes, captions what you actually said, and adds B-roll, motion graphics and music. It sends you an edit plan to approve before it cuts anything, and it never posts for you. New to templates? Start with what a template copies.

How to get the update

Automatic Updates has been on by default since version 0.65.0, so Grok Bot restarts to apply updates while you're away. You can turn that off in Settings → Updates.
