Grok Bot can search X without connecting your account

On October 7, the official Grok Bot account posted that Grok Bot can now search, read, and monitor X.

A follow-up in the same thread says you can ask a Bot to track product feedback, follow a breaking story, or send a weekly industry roundup — and that this is available for all users, with no need to set up the X connector.

What changed

Earlier this year, reading X from Grok Bot meant connecting an X account through the X connector. SpaceXAI's August note, Grok Bot now works with X, described that path: connect X, get a developer account if you need one, and use API credits to start.

The October 7 posts change the default for public research. You can ask your Bot to look through public posts without that setup step.

What still needs your X account

The announcement is about search, read, and monitoring. It does not say your Bot can post for you, send DMs, or pull personal data like your home timeline or mentions. For those, connecting your own X account through the plugin is still the path described in the older news note.

If you want a Bot to draft something in your voice, keep the usual rule: review the draft, then send it yourself.

Pair it with a routine

The follow-up names jobs that fit a routine: track feedback, follow a story, or get a weekly roundup. Prove the ask once in chat, then put the repeat on a schedule so it keeps running while your laptop is closed.

Same-day app notes

The Grok Bot changelog also lists v0.68.1 on October 7: slide decks (PowerPoint or Google Slides), formatted email from draft cards, searching Gmail Spam and moving a message back to the inbox, and a larger Bot computer screen (1920 × 1200). Those are separate from the X search post, but they shipped the same day.

Try it

Open a Bot and ask something concrete, for example: "Search X for what people said about [your product] this week and list the top themes with links." Start with public posts. Connect X later only if you need personal timeline or mentions.
