Grok Bot can claim its own email address

On October 9, the official Grok Bot account posted that Grok Bot now has its own email. It said a Bot can use the address to sign up for services, contact businesses for you, or schedule time with someone.

A follow-up in the same thread says the feature is rolling out today, you claim an inbox by asking Bot or tagging @bot on X, and team admins must enable it first.

What you get

Addresses live at mail.grokbot.com, such as yourname@mail.grokbot.com. The help page Give your Bot an email address says a Bot with that address can:

  • Sign up for services with its own address, and pick up the verification code or link with your OK
  • Collect receipts, newsletters, and reports, and summarize them for you
  • Send email for you, such as a digest or an update, and handle replies, once you've asked it to
  • Run a routine when mail arrives, optionally only from specific senders

The address belongs to you, not to one Bot. All of your Bots can use it in your own chats and in routines you set up. Bots can't use it in Slack threads or in chats where someone else is talking to the Bot, and a Team Bot doesn't get a shared team address.

How it works

1. You ask: "Get yourself an email address." 2. The Bot asks for a name and checks that it's free. 3. You see an approval card. Approve, and name@mail.grokbot.com is yours. Decline, and nothing is claimed. 4. When mail arrives and a routine is set for that sender, the Bot acts and reports in chat. Otherwise the mail waits until you ask about it. 5. When you ask the Bot to send, it sends, or shows you a draft first.

Claim one, step by step

StepWhat to doWhat you'll see
1Team members only: ask a team admin to turn on Agent Email in the Cursor dashboard, on the Grok Bot page under Bot CapabilitiesNothing changes for you until it's on. It's off by default for Cursor teams.
2Ask your Bot: "Get yourself an email address." Or open the Email plugin (desktop: plugin marketplace in the sidebar; phone: Settings > Plugins > Email)The Bot asks which name you want, or the plugin shows Choose a name
3Pick a name that follows the rules belowThe Bot checks that it's free
4Approve the card, or choose Create address in the pluginNothing is claimed until you approve. The plugin then shows your address with a copy button.
5Try a read-only request: "What arrived in your inbox today?"A summary in chat. There's no inbox view in the apps.
6Optional: "When an email arrives from billing@example.com, summarize it and tell me."A routine that wakes only for that sender

Pick the name carefully

You get one address, and you can't rename it or delete it. Names use lowercase letters, digits, dots, hyphens, and underscores. They start and end with a letter or digit and use at most 64 characters. Reserved words such as support, admin, billing, security, help, info, team, cursor, grok, and xai are blocked. Once someone claims an address, it's never given to anyone else, even after the account that claimed it is deleted.

Sending still needs your ask

Your Bot sends email only when you asked it to, in chat or in a routine's instructions. Otherwise it shows the full draft and asks first. Replying counts as sending. Instructions inside an email the Bot received never count as your permission to send. If you also connected Gmail or Outlook, the Bot asks which account to send from when either could work.

Common questions

Who can email my Bot? Anyone. Mail that fails the spam or virus scan is kept without its body or attachments, and it never starts a routine.

Will I get a notification for new mail? No. New mail doesn't start a chat or wake a Bot on its own. Ask the Bot, or set up a routine. Mail from the last minute may not show up in a search yet.

Can a routine filter by subject? No. A routine can watch mail from anyone, from specific addresses, or from a whole domain such as *@example.com. By default it only runs for senders that pass standard email authentication checks.

What are the sending limits? Up to 50 recipients per email across To, Cc, and Bcc, and up to 10 attachments (10 MB each, 25 MB total). Executable files can't be attached. Newsletters and first-contact emails go to one recipient per message with a one-click unsubscribe link. If a message bounces or someone unsubscribes, the Bot stops emailing that address and tells you.

What happens if my admin turns it off later? Bots lose their email tools and email routines stop. Mail sent to existing addresses is still received and kept, and members keep their addresses.

Is this the same as connecting Gmail? No. The Connect plugins help page says the Email plugin gives your Bots their own address instead of connecting an account you already have.
