Grok vs. Grok Bot on Shopify

Connect toWhat Shopify says it's for
GrokAsk questions about your business
Grok BotBuild a team of agents that help you run it

In short, Grok answers questions, and Grok Bot can take on ongoing work.

How it works

1. In Connect Apps, add Shopify. 2. Sign in to your store in the browser. If the plugin says Needs auth, sign in again until it says Installed and signed in. 3. Ask a read-only question first: orders, stock. 4. Turn the good result into a routine. 5. The Bot drafts listing or price changes. 6. You approve or deny. Allow, and the change is made in the store. Deny, and nothing changes.

What a Bot can do with your store

Job (from the Grok Bot post)Example request
Check orders"What orders came in overnight, and are any still unfulfilled?"
Track inventory"Send me a list of low-inventory items and draft a reorder." (the example in the announcement image)
Keep product listings up to date"Find listings with missing descriptions and draft new ones for me to review."

How to start

StepWhat to doWhat to check
1In Grok Bot, open Connect Apps (called Marketplace until October 2) and search for ShopifyOn the phone, tap your avatar at the top left, then Plugins
2Add it and finish the store sign-in in your browserIf it says Waiting for authorization, use Reopen to bring the browser tab back
3Confirm Shopify appears under InstalledAdded alone means installed, not signed in. Choose Authorize if it shows Needs auth
4Ask a read-only question, like overnight ordersYou get a report in chat and nothing changes in the store
5Make it a routine, such as a morning inventory checkEach run spends usage, so daily costs less than hourly
6Only then ask for edits, with approvals onYou review each change before it happens

Before a Bot touches your store

  • Ask for reports before edits.
  • Keep approvals on for anything that changes listings or prices.
  • Give it one clear job. A Bot that only watches inventory is easier to trust than one that does everything.

Common questions

What can the Shopify plugin do? The Connect plugins help page says a plugin uses the account you authorize and can do only what that account can already do in that service. It can't raise your access.

The Bot says the plugin is missing. Why? Added means installed, not signed in. Open the plugin and choose Authorize if it shows Needs auth or Disconnected.

I'm on a team and the plugin says "Disabled by team admin." Your Cursor team admin controls which marketplace plugins are available. Ask them to enable it.

Do all my Bots get access? The help page says an installed plugin is available to every Bot on that Grok Bot account. A teammate's Team Bot asks before it uses your accounts.

Will a routine run while my laptop is closed? Yes. The Routines help page says routines run in the cloud while your laptop is closed.
