Attach the source. Name the artifact.
Files and results says to attach source material and ask the Bot to return work in a form you can inspect, edit, and hand off. Tell the Bot what each attachment is and how it should use it. Say when it must not modify the originals.
Name the thing you want back. Official examples include a document with headings and source links, a spreadsheet with defined columns, a slide deck, a folder of screenshots, a draft message that has not been sent, or a short recommendation followed by the evidence.
For consequential work, ask the Bot to separate facts found in source systems, assumptions, actions already completed, actions waiting for approval, and unresolved questions.
On September 9, 2026 the official Grok Bot account on X said you can share a file directly with Grok Bot on mobile. Attaching the source is the start. Naming the file you want back is how you finish.
The five-minute first task
Get started gives a first result that needs no connector and no website login. Attach a document and ask:
> Summarize this document in five bullets. List every date, decision, and open question in a separate section. Cite the page or section for each item. Do not change the source file.
That shape is the lesson. You attached a source. You named the artifact. You asked for citations. You wrote a stop line around the original file.
Then review the file the Bot returns. Open the card. Check the headings, the dates, and the citations. Ask it to revise the existing artifact instead of making disconnected copies.
Review the file before sends or a clock
Use cases says the best roles own a repeatable outcome. Start with read-and-prepare work, review the result, then add approved actions or a routine.
Official use-case prompts stop at a review list: do not send, do not enroll, do not contact anyone, do not change budgets, do not change production settings. The file you can open is the first finish line. Sends and schedules come after that file looks right.
