Action approval

Also called approval, approval gate.

Action approval is a person's permission for one proposed action to go ahead. A useful approval shows what will happen and what it will affect.

Example

A bot prepares a club announcement. You read the exact text and check the club's account before allowing that one post.

  1. The bot proposes an actionSend this email to this person.
  2. Rules and Auto Review check itAsk-first rules stop it for a person.
  3. You chooseAllow once, always allow, or deny.
  4. It runs or stopsOnly what you allowed goes ahead.
One action, one decision. An approval controls the proposed action. It does not undo work that already happened.

Why it matters

xAI's docs describe the choices Grok Bot offers: allow once, always allow, or deny. An approval controls the proposed action. It does not reverse work that already happened.

Auto Review is an automated check that runs before tool calls and computer actions. It can hold an action for a person, but a model reviewing an action is not the same as a person approving it.

Common confusion

Authorization gives access. Action approval says yes to one particular use of it. Approving one action does not approve the next one unless you chose a standing rule such as always allow.
