Tag @bot on X to hand a post to your Grok Bot

On October 1, @singhai posted that "later this week, your @bot can be triggered by posting/reply on X." On the night of October 2 came the follow-up: "Now live for a lot of users."

Here's how it works, based on the official Grok Bot docs page Tag @bot on X.

How it works

Reply to a post, or write your own, and tag @bot with a request. For example:

> @bot summarize this thread and send the key points to my Slack

@bot replies on X with a short line confirming that your Grok Bot has the request. Your main Bot then does the work on its cloud computer. The work and the results stay in that Bot's chat in the Grok Bot app. On X, @bot only posts the confirmation.

1. You post or reply on X and tag @bot. 2. @bot checks your region, your linked accounts, that the post isn't a video or GIF, and that it doesn't also tag @grok. If a check fails, @bot stays quiet or replies with a setup link. 3. If the checks pass, @bot replies with a short confirmation. 4. Your main Bot gets your post, the post you replied to, and quoted posts. 5. The work runs on the Bot's cloud computer and uses your Grok Bot usage. 6. Results land in that Bot's chat in the app, not on X.

Your Bot receives your post, the post you replied to, and any post either of them quotes, including still photos.

People have used it to ask for voice-note summaries of posts and to claim their Bot's new email inbox:

On October 10, Lauren Tan quoted her own "what did you get done this week with @bot?" thread and asked @bot to read the whole thing and suggest ideas for how it could help with her work and life. In a reply she told others to try the same.

Set it up, step by step

StepWhat to doWhere
1Connect your X account to your Grok accountgrok.com → Settings → Account → Connect next to 𝕏 Account
2Get Grok Bot access on that same Grok accountDownload from x.ai/bot. If access comes through SuperGrok, link it when you sign in.
3Create at least one Bot of your ownBots someone shared with you can't take tagged requests
4Tag @bot with a clear request, on a post without video or GIFAny post or reply on X
5Watch for @bot's confirmation, then open Grok BotThe work and results are in your main Bot's chat

The X plugin for Grok Bot is optional. @bot forwards requests with or without it.

The first time a tagged request goes through, X notifies you that tagged requests start work automatically and use your Grok Bot usage.

Common questions

Where does tagging work? Most countries. It isn't available yet for accounts based in Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway. @bot goes by the country X has on record for your account, so your location and any VPN make no difference. If X lists only a broad region, or no country at all, tagging isn't available yet either.

Why didn't @bot reply? Then your Bot didn't get the request. Common causes from the docs: your region isn't supported yet; you replied in a thread that already includes @bot but didn't tag @bot yourself; the post also tags @grok; the post, the post it replies to, or a quoted post has a video or GIF; the post didn't pass moderation; or Grok Bot isn't linked to your Grok account, or your weekly usage is used up.

Which Bot gets the task? Your main Bot.

Does @bot post my results on X? No. @bot posts only the confirmation. Results stay in the app.

Does it cost anything? Tagged requests use your Grok Bot usage.
