Technology stack

Also called tech stack, stack.

A technology stack is the combination of languages, frameworks, databases, and services used to build and run a product.

Example

A site might use TypeScript in the browser, a database for records, and a host to keep the site online. Together those choices are the stack.

Why it matters

The stack is a list of choices that have to work together. It is not a ranking of which tool is best, and it is not the same as a single framework.

Common confusion

Stack in this sense is the set of technologies. It is not a pile of error messages, which is a stack trace.
