Passkey
Also called passkeys.
In plain English
A passkey lets you sign in to a site the same way you unlock your device, with a fingerprint, face, PIN, or pattern, instead of a password.
Example
You sign in to a site, your phone asks for your fingerprint, and you are in. No password was typed.
Why it matters
The FIDO Alliance describes a passkey as a FIDO sign-in credential tied to your account on a website or app. You sign in with the same step you use to unlock your device. There is no password to type, so there is nothing to reuse or to give away in a fake login page.
How it shows up on bot.ski
Botski never asks for your password or passkey by message. Adding a passkey to the account you use to sign in to bot.ski adds a layer of protection.
Common confusion
A passkey is not a password you remember. It is stored by your device or password manager and used for you.
